This is the start of the many contributions I will make in my life. Applying for ISM last school year I had no idea what to expect. Quite frankly, I still don’t know how this year will pan out, however, I believe the future is bright. One of the positive sides of starting this school year during quarantine was just being able to sit at home and think. I have really spent time wondering what I want for myself - in the near and distant future. So far in ISM, we have started to develop our personal brands and portfolios, and I am excited to see where we take them. I have recently begun research for my first assessment, which I am both nervous and ecstatic for, and I hope to begin receiving feedback soon.
Since school has started, I have already seen myself grow immensely. Even while working and studying at home, ISM has pushed me to complete work in an orderly and timely fashion, caused me to dig deeper and really analyze research and articles, taught me how to exemplify professionalism, and even had me create my own website. Although it seems as if I have gone from A to Z, I am still overcoming many challenges such as writer’s block, my love of procrastination, and the overall difficulty of having to learn that this is not just a high school course anymore. I am constantly adjusting, learning, and becoming better every day, and I will work diligently to ensure that I will thrive in this course, in the professional realm, and in the rest of my classes.
While reading through articles, I believe I have attained a general understanding of otolaryngology. Just this week, I learned how diverse the work of an ENT can be. There is a possibility that an ENT sees an elderly man with a tumor in his neck one day and an infant with a severe ear infection the next. I am now left wondering questions such as: When is a case severe enough to be passed from a primary care physician to an ENT? In the coming weeks, I hope to strengthen and build upon the general knowledge I have acquired and possibly even answer some of my own questions.
Next week, I am thrilled to be going back to an actual full week of in-person school, and I cannot wait to see what amazing things I will learn and do this year.
