Two very exciting events happened for me this week: I bought my first professional dress suit (for ISM interviews and beyond), and I made my first professional otolaryngologist connection on LinkedIn!
Even though buying my professional dress was exciting on its own, I was thrilled when I saw I had a connection. I had heard ISM 2 students talking about sometimes waiting for weeks before receiving any response from professionals, so I had been ready to let myself be disappointed. I had not been expecting such a quick match and my eyes lit up when I saw it. Even if I am not able to get an interview with him in the future, I see this as a huge step for me. I am so excited to be taking another step deeper into ISM, and I cannot wait to see what else I will do for myself through this program.
Now, although many aspects were very exciting this week, it was a little stressful as well. For starters, this week was the first full week of in-person school, and this meant that every teacher would be cramming a test in before progress reports were due. Along with that, I also had band practice either before or after school almost everyday. It really felt like a day by day survival game, but I did it. For ISM, I feel like I knew for a while what I was going to write my assessment about, however, I never got around to doing it. I got the paper done on time but I need to do a better job on doing work and other things earlier; therefore, I have already found a couple of articles that sound interesting that I may want to annotate in the future.
I know there will be plenty of stressful weeks this year and for the rest of my life, however, I am ready to take them on. I am continuously growing and I am open minded to whatever may come next. Whatever the future may bring, I am excited to take it step by step, one foot in front of the other.
